I created a previous post on Amazing Christian Books to Strengthen Your Faith and this is Part II to that list. I love it when friends give me an excellent book recommendation, so here are some recommendations for you, to strengthen and deepen your Christian faith.

1. The Reason for God by Timothy Keller

This book is an apologetic book that anyone can read, Christian or non-Christian. I always appreciate Tim Keller’s authentic and caring tone, he is neither far left nor far right but shares grace and truth in love in his writing. Tim Keller is no longer with us, but I am thankful he has left us with his insights and solid reasons for having faith in Jesus and in the Bible.

2. Why Trust the Bible? by Amy Orr-Ewing

Amy Orr-Ewing is a Christian apologist who graduated from Oxford University. If you’ve ever heard her preach (on YouTube), you will see her book reads just like the way she talks. This is another excellent Christian apologetic book. She presents solid arguments for belief in the Christian faith and the Bible. I appreciate her insight on sexuality, through the lens of being created in the image of God, and her knowledge of women in the Bible. She makes the case that Christianity in the Greco-Roman world elevated women and gave them more agency in their own lives compared to their non-Christian counterparts.

“The good news of the Gospels is largely staked on the basis of the testimony of women about Jesus Christ – that he was born to be God with us, that he was crucified and died for our sins and that, on the third day, his tomb was found empty because he was raised from the dead.”

It was the women’s testimony that came first. Jesus uplifted women and included them among his followers, and I never really spent a lot of time thinking about how special that was until I read her book.

3. Hidden Treasures in the Book of Job by Hugh Ross

Hidden Treasures in the Book of Job shares nuggets of science and physics hidden in the Book of Job, the oldest book of the Bible. It was amazing to read about insights we are only just now understanding with our current technology, but that was written about and predicted in ancient times. This is an excellent read and a unique book, I’ve never come across anything remotely similar.

4. The Big Book of Bible Difficulties by Norman Geisler and Thomas Howe

The Big Book of Bible Difficulties is a reference book. It goes through each book of the Bible and addresses difficult passages or verses that seemingly contradict each other or are just hard to understand. The book is in a question-and-answer format. He gives explanations, verses, and background information to better understand some of the more difficult passages. I find this book very useful to have on hand when studying the Bible, it’s a perfect gift for the serious Bible scholar.

5. Mere Christianity by C.S. Lewis

This book is a classic that most Christians have already heard of, but having a book list without a written work of C.S. Lewis seems wrong. This book is a compilation of a series of talks about philosophy and apologetics given over the radio during World War II. His thoughts and convincing arguments ring as true today as they did in 1942.

6. Improbable Planet by Hugh Ross

Improbable Planet is a book that goes over all of the ways the Earth and the Universe is fine-tuned for life. The amount of science and information in this book can be a bit overwhelming, but if you’re looking for reasons as to why life would be impossible without an Intelligent Designer, then this is it.

7. Darwin’s Black Box by Michael Behe

This book is a primer into biology, DNA, and DNA replication. Macro-Evolution is impossible due to the complexity of steps needed to create simple life. This is a great read whether you are a biology expert or a novice. Behe does a great job explaining a complex topic in a way that all can understand.

8. Fasting by Jentezen Franklin

I honestly never gave much thought to fasting in my spiritual walk until reading this book. The book goes into what the Bible says about fasting, and testimonies. There is a story in Mark 9 where the disciples could not drive a demon out of a little boy, and Jesus said that “this kind can come out only by prayer and fasting.” Many of us have grown up in a western world where food is ubiquitous and have never had to miss a meal, but fasting was a regular part of Jesus’s life. Most religions and eastern cultures regularly fast, and fasting was a normal occurrence in the Old and New Testament. If you have ever thought of giving praying and biblical fasting a try, I highly recommend this book for spiritual motivation.
